Welcome to 5th grade for the 2023-2024 school year at Enka Intermediate School!! This is my 23rd year working in education and my 1st year teaching at EIS. I am thrilled to extend my reach in an opportunity culture school, allowing me to mix digital, project-based and face-to-face instruction in a wider variety of ways, allowing students to dive deeper into topics of interest and express their thinking in more varied ways. This philosophy of teaching allows me to set high standards for project work and align it to desired learning outcomes, that help students both achieve high growth and stay highly engaged in learning. I am looking forward to an exciting year of growth and Project Based Learning!
My family and I previously lived east of Asheville for 10 years. During that time my husband was a college baseball coach at Wake Forest and Duke. Currently, he teaches and coaches at Asheville High School. I have 3 busy boys of my own! Hayes- Asheville High School, Connor-a freshman baseball player at Barton College & Three (William III) is a senior baseball player at Liberty University. We love Asheville and we're excited to be a part of the Enka community!.
I grew up in Asheville (I graduated from Enka High!) and received degrees in Sociology & Psychology from UNC-Asheville. After graduating, I went back to school and obtained my degree in Elementary Education (K-6) from North Carolina Central University. I am also certified to teach English as a Second Language (TESOL) which I earned from Mars Hill University. I’m currently working on a M.Ed. In mathematics education.
I have had the privilege of having experience in grade-levels Kindergarten-6th grade in various North Carolina school systems.
